As he nears the end of a 20-month drugs ban, Adam Walker has signed for Super League outfit Salford Red Devils.

Walker signs for Salford ahead of return from ban

Adam Walker is set to return to action at the conclusion of his drugs ban after signing for Salford Red Devils.

The former Wakefield Trinity prop last year saw a 20-month suspension backdated to July 2017 by UK Anti-Doping, having testing positive for benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, following a Super League win at Widnes Vikings.

Walker will be available to play again in March and Salford have secured his signature.

Announcing the signing, the Red Devils described Walker as a "now reformed character" while he suggested he will learn from his past mistakes.

"I've not been perfect in the past. I don't think anyone is," he said. "But you need to learn from your mistakes and develop as a person and player afterwards.

"It's been a tough few years for myself, not being able to play the sport I love on a regular basis.

"I was suffering from some mental health issues at the time, which in turn led to me making a big mistake. I don't want to use that as an excuse. I accepted and learnt from my punishment.

"In my time away from the game, I feel like I've matured a lot. I honestly feel I've turned the corner, I've regained my love for the sport and I'm ready for the next chapter."
