Denis Betts has been with Widnes Vikings since 2010, but another poor Super League campaign has cost him his role as head coach.

Betts dismissed by struggling Vikings

Super League strugglers Widnes Vikings have dismissed head coach Denis Betts, the club have announced.

Betts has been in the role since November 2010 but leaves a Vikings side who are bottom of the table with just three wins from 15 matches this season.

Under Betts, the Vikings have finished in the top eight only twice and were forced to play in the Qualifiers last season after finishing bottom of Super League last term.

A short statement from the club read: "Widnes Vikings have announced that the club has ended the contract of head coach, Denis Betts, with immediate effect.

"The club would like to put on record its thanks for his contribution, for eight seasons."
