Days after Wayne Bennett's arrival was confirmed, Damien Cook has signed a long-term contract extension with the South Sydney Rabbitohs.

Cook signs long-term Rabbitohs deal

Australia and New South Wales hooker Damien Cook has extended his contract with the South Sydney Rabbitohs until at least the end of 2023.

Cook, 27, has been at the Rabbitohs since 2016, having also made NRL appearances for the St George Illawarra Dragons and Canterbury Bulldogs before joining South Sydney.

His stellar 2018 season saw him awarded the Dally M Hooker of the Year Award, while he was also the George Piggins Medallist as the Rabbitohs' best and fairest player.

"I'm very excited to be extending my contract with the Rabbitohs and I'm happy to have my future sorted," Cook said in a statement confirming the deal, which is reportedly worth 4.5million Australian dollars.

"Souths has been my home for the past three years and I didn't think it would be possible to be able to secure things for the next five years, but I'm so happy that that will be the case.

"I promise to do the very best I can every time I play, for my team-mates and the members of the club.

"I've loved every moment of my time here, even the tough times, and I think we're building to something nicely.

"It's exciting times at the Rabbitohs and I'm looking forward to seeing where we can take it in 2019 and beyond."

Cook's re-signing comes just days after it was confirmed Wayne Bennett would take helm of the Rabbitohs beginning next year.

The Rabbitohs reached the preliminary finals in 2018, losing to eventual premiers the Sydney Roosters.
