Bradley Wiggins is encouraged by reports that Team Sky will become Team Ineos when their naming partner departs at the end of 2019.
Broadcaster Sky announced in December that it would be ending its involvement in the hugely successful cycling team this year, leaving principal Dave Brailsford looking for a new backer.
And reports suggest chemicals firm Ineos - owned by Jim Ratcliffe, valued as Britain's richest man - will take on the naming rights.
Team Sky said they had no comment to make on the speculation at this stage when contacted by Omnisport on Monday.
Wiggins, who won the 2012 Tour de France with Sky, believes it would be "ideal" for Ratcliffe and Brailsford to link up and allow the team to continue their fine work.
"I think [Brailsford] would have been reluctant to have another multinational company that came in and wanted the control in terms of 'this is how we advertise our company'," Wiggins told his Eurosport show.
"Ratcliffe is the richest man in Britain and you would imagine that the kind of money they have asked for is nothing to him.
"Dave can continue running this team with all his plans and philosophies, so it's an ideal situation for him and you'd imagine he is answerable to one man."
