BANGLADESH CRICKET

Tigress postmortem soon

Bangladesh Cricket Board official said on Sunday that they will sit to have a post-mortem of their women’s team performance in the ICC World Twenty20.

Salma Khatun's team has returned home empty-handed from the Women's T20 World Cup in Australia while they have not won a single match in the last three World Cup and the only success they got was in 2014 World Cup when they got win against Sri Lanka in home condition.

Expectations were higher this time considering they had done well in the recent past and everyone expected that at least they will win one match this time in the global event, though they were failed to do so despite they got a win against Pakistan in the practice match.

‘’We were expected to sit earlier to find out the reason behind the World Cup debacle but failed to do so due to the coronavirus pandemic but we will certainly sit to assess our performance once everything get normal,’’ BCB women’s wing chairman Shafiul Alam Chowdhury told reporters on Sunday.

According to insiders, women’s team performance was affected largely due to ‘grouping’ between two senior cricketers who were more inclined to get others on their camp rather than trying to focus totally on their cricket.

Grouping is not a new phenomenon in women’s cricket as earlier their dressing room was separated by the same cricketers though in the recent past that was not the case and as a result they did exceptionally well. Several years ago, the news of grouping in the women team came to the media. After then the news of this poisonous instance was not heard anymore. This time after the World Cup, it has risen up again. This has been considering as one of the major causes of such failure in the World Cup. It is reported that the grouping has been created by two senior cricketers.
