Tigers’ conditioning camp in Mirpur in mid-August

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is planning to start conditioning camp at the home of cricket at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) from mid-August only if the government approves them.

Bangladesh cricketers are facing uncertainty over resumptions of international cricket with the Asia Cup postponement by Asian Cricket Council (ACC) along with the fate of T20 World Cup hangs in balance.

While the bulk of the international teams have started some sort of practicing in their own backyard, Bangladesh cricketers also need to follow that suit to enhance their skill level which isn’t possible up to the scrape from working at home.

Bangladesh Chief Selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu said they have prepared a combined squad of 38 players who have been taken from the national team and BCB-High Performance (HP) team.

Of them, 26 players have been taken for the HP team. They are all set to call them to start practicing in mid-August only after getting approval from the government.

“We can start the fitness camp if the government approves from the second week of August,” Minhajul Abedin Nannu said.

“There are 4-5 HP players among 38 players left. The HP team has a separate squad. Although there are two squads, the conditioning camp will be together,” Nannu told the media.

“It’s necessary to have a fitness camp by following hygiene rules. We can’t take any decision without match fitness. Match fitness is not done by training personally. We need to hold a conditioning camp for this reason,” he added.

The former national team captain also stated that they are willing to play in any country where the coronavirus situation has improved.

“The Asia Cup has been postponed. We don’t know anything about the World Cup. We have to start our preparation even after knowing this. The board may also take the initiative to play the series in countries where there is no COVID-19 problem. We’re in talks with the Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) board to start our HP camp in their country. We’re having a discussion about that. I hope the ‘window’ will open in front,” he added.

Meanwhile, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury has said that coaching staff are ready and they will join the team when they are asked.

“The coaching staff is ready. The coaches will have to stay in the quarantine for 14 days after reaching Dhaka. That’s how they will come. But it is not clear when he will come. Russell Domingo is expected to return to work in August,” Nizamuddin said.
