Srilanka Series

Bangladesh sweat over players’ fitness in Sri Lanka tour

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced the 14 member squad for a three-match ODI series in Sri Lanka amid fitness concern of some players including captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza.

Mashrafe played the whole World Cup through hamstring injury, sustained during the tri-nation series in Ireland. And Mahmudullah has been suffering from a shoulder injury for quite some time. In the World Cup against Afghanistan, he suffered from a hamstring injury and missed the match against India.

Although Mahmudullah played against Pakistan in the last match of the World Cup, he looked not fully fit in that match. As Bangladesh ace all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan and batsman Liton Das aren’t playing in this series, BCB has taken the risk of playing him in this series.

Bangladesh team’s chief selector Minhajul Abedin Nannu believes these two experienced cricketers will be fit before the series as they have got ample time to be fit.

“They have had a lot of time to recover after the World Cup. And success is very important in every series. The World Cup chapter is over. We are starting a new chapter. This series is very important. Every match, every day is very important. I think players are professional enough and they will think in that way. I believe, they will do well in this series,” said Nannu.
