Virat Kohli Reveals How They Could Avoid Playing the Super Over

The 2020 edition of the Indian Premier League has so far witnessed two thrilling super over games within 10 games. And, when you have Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, AB de Villiers, Rohit Sharma in the middle, the game will certainly be a cracking one.

Howveer, both Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) ended up scoring the same runs and they had to play the super over where Kohli-led RCB sealed the deal in the final over. Meanwhile, winning captain Kohli shared his views on this matter as well.

“I don't have words right now. It was such a roller-coaster game,” Kohli said.

The RCB captain also praised the efforts of his team but also stressed that the Super Over wasn’t needed if they could perform better in the fielding department.

“I think they played really well and patiently in the middle. It went down to the wire, we tried to execute the things we wanted to. We've got a close victory and these little things on the field, we really want to focus on it. Fielding is something we need to work on. If we'd taken our chances, it wouldn't have been so close,” he shared.

While speaking about his decision to come out to bat with AB de Villiers in the Super Over where eight runs were needed to win the game, Kohli said that it was all about taking responsibility and nothing else. Notably, he hit the winning runs as well.

“The guys showed good character. Outstanding Super Over from him (Saini). He used the yorkers and wide balls to good effect. This should boost us going forward. I thought about who are the best guys to come back for twos and it was me and AB. It was all about stepping onto the field and taking responsibility,” he concluded.

RCB will play their next game on Saturday against Steve Smith-led Rajasthan Royals.
