BANGLADESH CRICKET

Riyad urges to keep in Mymensingh CH ground’s openness

Bangladesh T20 skipper Mahmudullah urged to have appropriate development activities on Mymensingh circuit house ground while maintaining the openness and tradition of this field.

Mymensingh has always been producing talent for the national cricket. The circuit house ground is the primary place where players shaped their dreams and started their career.

A swarm of famous cricketers has also emerged from Mymensingh city, which lies on the banks of the mighty Brahmaputra river.

Mymensingh produced a lot of cricketers such as Fakharuddin, Mofizuddin, Prabin Kumar Sen, Ilias Uddin Ahmed, Dr Hafizur Rahman, Mahbubur Rahman Selim, Khairul, Siddique, Ram Chand Gowla, Dr Nurul Anwar, Kazi Mohammad Hasan, Saiful Islam, Sanwar Hossain, Sadrul Anam, Belayet Hossain Belal, Abdul Majid, Sadeq, Sukumar, Muhammad Ali, Anwarul Amin Azhar, Alok Chakrabarti and Pika.

The pipeline has still not dried up as the current Bangladesh cricketers Mahmudullah Riyad and Mosaddek Hossain have all from the traditional district.

Mymensingh once was a big venue of the country, where Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), Deccan Blues, Hyderabad Blues and the Sri Lanka national team played against BCB XI and various regional teams in Mymensingh from the mid-seventies to the early eighties.

It’s learnt that an initiative has been taken to create a boundary around the green-carpeted open field of the traditional circuit house in Mymensingh town, adjacent to the Brahmaputra River.

However, Mymensingh cricketers have termed the decision to build a boundary in the open field as ‘heartless’.

Former national team cricketers Sanwar Hossain and Saiful Islam have appealed for reconsideration of the initiative.

As per them, it’s a traditional ground. There are memories of many cricketers in this field. The field is open. That open field is the main beauty. If they surround the wall there, then the ground will lose its eternal beauty.

Mymensingh-born player and the current T20 skipper of the national team Mahmudullah has also come down to his official Facebook page. He shares his memory about the field where he started his career and also urged the authorities concerned not to spoil the beauty of the field. They should keep intact as it was before while doing the development of the field.

“Assalamu Alaikum. This is the picture taken at our favourite circuit house ground. This is where I started playing cricket. This is where my cricket career started. I think the life of all the athletes of Mymensingh started from this ground. Whenever I go to Mymensingh, I visit this ground at least once. Whether it is day or night because of a lot of memories, a lot of emotions are involved with this field,” said Mahmudullah Riyad.

“The openness of this field is associated with the culture and heritage of Mymensingh. At present, several development projects have been undertaken around this field. I welcome the development and I hope that the appropriate development activities will be implemented while maintaining the openness and tradition of this field, Insha-Allah,” Riyad wrote on his verified facebook page.
