Consistent Delhi Capitals Register a 44-run Win over Struggling Chennai Super Kings

Delhi Capitals once again register a 44-run win over Chennai Super Kings and placed at the top of the table. This is first time Delhi has managed to do this since at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai on Friday.

Put into bat first, Delhi Capitals’ openers Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan built a solid foundation and added 94 runs in first 10 overs. Shaw and Dhawan started slowly before changed their gear and took on the bowlers as well.

Meanwhile, Dhawan smashed a maximum over deep square leg off Ravindra Jadeja in the 8th over. Later, Shaw did the same and hit a six over long-off. However, it was the experienced Piyush Chawla who provided with the first breakthrough as he trapped Dhawan before the stumps in the 10th over while trying to hit a reverse sweep but the ball hit on the pads.

After his dismissal, Chawla picked up Shaw too for 64 off 43 who also hit 9 fours and a six. After that, Rishabh Pant (37 not out) and captain Shreyas Iyer (26) added 58 for the third wicket and Delhi ended up posting a huge total of 175 for 3 in 20 overs.

While chasing, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) once again struggled in opening as both the openers – Murali Vijay and Shane Watson fell for 10 and 14 respectively within the powerplay. And, once again Faf du Plessis played the sheet anchor’s role. He added 54 runs with Kedar Jadhav whereas MS Dhoni promoted himself at No.6 but he could only manage 15 runs off 12 balls.

However, du Plessis didn’t get much support from the other end but once again became the top-scorer for CSK and got the Orange Cap as well. Apart from him, Jadhav scored 26 and Jadeja scored a 9-ball 12 and they managed to score 131, losing by 44 runs. For Delhi, Kagiso Rabada picked up 3 wickets in his 4 overs spell.
