Giants C Buster Posey (hip surgery) could be limited early in 2019 season

Buster Posey's injury recovery will carry into 2019.

The Giants catcher is expected to be limited during spring training and at the start of next season as he continues his rehabilitation after undergoing surgery this summer.

"Certainly with a guy like Buster, coming off the major surgery, it might impact his spring training workload and maybe even his early season workload, but for now, all the indications are positive that he'll be 100 percent," new Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi said at the winter meetings in Las Vegas, via The Associated Press.

Posey had a procedure in August to repair a torn labrum in the hip and remove an impingement. While he will need to take his time getting back in the swing of things, he should be fully healthy by opening day but won't necessarily be rushed into full-time duty.

Posey, 31, batted .284 with five home runs and 41 RBIs in 105 games last season, his lowest total appearances since 2011.
