Chris Sale was hospitalized with a stomach illness over the weekend and is reportedly still recovering.

MLB postseason 2018: Red Sox ace Chris Sale won't start Game 5 of ALCS

Chris Sale will not start Game 5 of the American League Championship Series for the Red Sox, manager Alex Cora told reporters Wednesday.

Boston's ace was hospitalized over the weekend with a stomach illness. He was released Monday.

According to NBCS Boston, Sale's illness forced him to miss two days of preparation, which put him behind schedule.

Sale is hoping to start Game 6, but that would be at the earliest, according to ESPN.

The seven-time All-Star threw four innings of one-hit, two-run ball in a Game 1 loss to the Astros. He finished the regular season with a 12-4 record and a 2.11 ERA with 237 strikeouts in 158 innings.

Boston is starting Rick Porcello in Game 4 on Wednesday, so Eduardo Rodriguez may be in line for the start in Game 5. Joe Kelly is also an option.

The Red Sox have yet to announce a new starter.
