MLB trade rumors: Astros unwilling to move this prospect in deal for Tigers’ Matthew Boyd

The Astros are interested in dealing for Tigers starter Matthew Boyd. But, only at the right price.

Houston is unwilling to include outfielder Kyle Tucker in a potential trade for the 28-year-old left-hander, according to a report from MLB Network, which cites an unidentified league source.

The Astros selected Tucker, 22, with the fifth pick in the 2015 draft. He made his MLB debut last season and slashed .141/.236/.203 in 64 at-bats over 28 games.

Tucker is the No. 2 prospect in the Astros organization, according to MLB.com.

Houston entered play Tuesday with a 6 1/2 game lead in the American League West. They’ve won five of their last seven after suffering through a seven-game losing streak in mid-to-late June

Boyd, meanwhile, is in the middle of a career season and holds a 5-6 record with a 3.72 ERA in 17 starts so far in 2019. He has struck out 129 and walked 20 in 101 2/3 innings pitched.

Detroit is believed to be looking for “multiple impact prospects" in exchange for Boyd, according to an earlier report from MLB.com.

“It’s just noise, right?” Boyd said about the trade rumors last month, via MLB.com. “There’s no action that needs to be taken or anything. It’s just stuff that’s out of my control, and really no stock needs to go into it until something happens. So, there’s nothing I can do.”

Detroit is also willing to listen to offers for slugger Nicholas Castellanos and Shane Greene, along with “virtually any veteran on its roster,” according to MLB Network.

“The guys that should be worried are the guys that no one is interested in,” Detroit manager Ron Gardenhire said in June. “So, when people care, and your name is being thrown around, it ought to flatter you. That’s what I throw out there. Just be happy that someone wants you in this game.”

The Tigers are well out of playoff contention with a 27-52 record. The Yankees and Brewers have also been linked to Boyd.
