Yankees trade rumors: New York has spoken with Blue Jays about Marcus Stroman

The Yankees continue to look for a starter.

New York has spoken with the Blue Jays about potentially dealing for Marcus Stroman, according to a report from the New York Post, which cites an unidentified industry source.

The Yankees pitching staff has been decimated by injuries so far this season. Ace Luis Severino has not pitched as he has been sidelined by a right shoulder and lat issue. Jonathan Loaisiga and Domingo German are both also on the injured list, as is reliever Dellin Betances.

The Yankees attempted to sign free agent Dallas Keuchel last week, but he ultimately agreed to a one-year deal with the Braves.

“I do think (our rotation) is good enough,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone told reporters last week, via NJ.com. “There are lots of things that need to unfold, but we have the guys in that room absolutely to be elite.

“If the season unfolds and we get into a situation where we continue to need, I know we’re going to always kick the tires and explore how we can improve our club.”

Stroman, 28, is 3-8 with a 3.31 ERA in 14 starts in 2019. He has struck out 63 and walked 28 over 81 2/3 innings pitched.

The Blue Jays were swept by the Diamondbacks over the weekend and have lost 10 of their last 12 games. They hold a 23-42 record.

“I work extremely hard, every single day, extremely hard,” Stroman told Sportsnet earlier this month. “I hold myself to an extremely high level and we’re losing, a lot. So, it’s not fun. This is not fun. It’s not a fun atmosphere. I’m a winner. I hate losing. I can’t put that into words enough so ... it’s tough.”

Despite the injuries, the Yankees finished play Sunday with a 39-24 record.
