MLB hot stove: Yankees continue to 'check in' on Manny Machado, report says

The Yankees remain in touch with Manny Machado.

New York executives continue “to check in” on the star 26-year-old free agent, according to a report from SNY, which cites unidentified league sources.

The Yankees aren’t the “frontrunners” to land Machado, but are not out of the running to sign him, the report says. The Phillies and White Sox are both also reportedly interested in Machado.

Machado, who was sent from the Orioles to the Dodgers before the trade deadline, registered a .297/.367/.538 slash line in 162 total games in 2018. He also hit 37 home runs and tallied 107 RBIs.

Machado has made four All-Star teams and won two Gold Glove awards in his seven-year MLB career.

The Yankees have had an active offseason. They’ve already traded for starter James Paxton and signed free agent infielders Troy Tulowitzki and DJ Lemahieu, among other moves.

Yankees pitchers and catchers will report to spring training Wednesday while the first full-squad workout is Feb. 19.
