MLB trade rumors: Dodgers talking to Cardinals about IF Jose Martinez

The Dodgers could be looking to add an infielder.

According to The Athletic, the Dodgers are in talks with the Cardinals about a potential deal for Jose Martinez.

Martinez's fit on the Dodgers roster isn't completely clear, but the report notes that the move could allow the Dodgers to play him at first base and put Max Muncy and second and Cody Bellinger at center. The 30-year-old also played left and right field for the Cardinals last season, although the Dodgers have plenty of talented outfielders.

The Cardinals considered making a deal for Martinez before the trade deadline, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported over the summer. St. Louis, however, moved him to the bench before playing him full time again.

Martinez, who has been with the Cardinals since 2016, is coming off a strong season where he had 17 home runs, 83 RBI and a .305/.364/.457 slash line in 152 games.
