Corey Seager injury update: Dodgers SS (Tommy John surgery) progress encourages team

Corey Seager is showing signs of improvement.

Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman provided an update Monday on the shortstop's status, saying he has progressed from rehabbing to training for next season.

"He's doing well," Friedman said, via ESPN. "He just got back to L.A. today. Now I think he's to the point where he's able to switch gears from rehabbing, to training and we're encouraged by where he's at. Obviously, we'll know a lot more as we get into January and [he] ramps up his baseball skills."

Friedman revealed Seager has started a throwing program and is running, adding he is even doing "a little bit" of hitting.

Seager missed all but 26 games last season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in April and arthroscopic surgery on his left hip in August. Despite his injury setbacks, he is expected to be fully healthy and ready to play by opening day.

Seager, 24, is slashing .302/.372/.494 for his career. The two-time All-Star and 2016 NL Rookie of the Year also has 54 home runs in 355 games played.
