Bruce Arians addressed Tom Brady's underwhelming display in Monday's loss to the Los Angeles Rams.

Brady's problem continuity not confidence, says Bucs coach Arians

Tom Brady does not have a confidence problem with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' offense, insisted head coach Bruce Arians.

Brady struggled in Tampa Bay's 27-24 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Monday, throwing two interceptions as the Bucs dropped to 7-4 for the NFL season.

The six-time Super Bowl champion, who was 26 of 48 for 216 yards and two touchdowns, was 0 of six with two interceptions on deep passes against the Rams.

Brady is 0-19 on deep passes in his past four games and missed on his last 22 deep attempts. It is the longest streak for any quarterback since 2017, per NFL Research.

Amid Brady's struggles, Arians pointed to continuity, telling reporters on Tuesday: "We have Tom calling a lot of his own [plays], or picking his own on the sidelines from the game plan.

"I don't think it's a confidence problem whatsoever. It's not lack of trust – it's lack of continuity within the offense, of the whole picture."

Arians added: "We've got the guys open. We've just missed 'em. There are times when coverage dictates you go to that guy. I think we can do a better job of utilising the deep ball in our game plan.

"But when they're there, we need to hit 'em. We can't have 'em going off our fingertips and we can't overthrow 'em.

"Other than the deep ball, I think he's getting confused a few times with coverage that might be causing some inaccurate balls, but I don't see it at all in practice. We're not missing the deep ball in practice, that's for sure, so it's just a matter of, on Sundays, hitting 'em."

In his first season with the Bucs after leaving the New England Patriots following 20 successful seasons, Brady has completed 280 of 433 passes for 2,955 yards, 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions through 11 games.

The Bucs – who have not reached the playoffs since 2007 – are second to the New Orleans Saints (8-2) in the NFC South.
