Chuck Pagano joined the Chicago Bears as the NFL team's new defensive coordinator.

Bears hire former Colts HC Pagano as defensive coordinator

The Chicago Bears found a replacement for Vic Fangio, hiring Chuck Pagano.

Pagano was hired as Chicago's new defensive coordinator, the team announced on Friday.

Pagano will take over for Fangio, who was hired by the Denver Broncos as the team's new head coach this week.

"We are excited to add Chuck to our staff as defensive coordinator," Bears head coach Matt Nagy said in a statement.

"He has successful experience at many different levels in this league and he is a great teacher with an aggressive mentality that fits our style of football. He is a man of high character and has a passion for the game that will no doubt add to the culture we have already started building at Halas Hall."

Pagano was most recently the head coach of the Colts from 2012-2017 and helped Indianapolis get to the AFC Championship game in 2014. He was fired after the team went 4-12 in 2017.

Before his time with the Colts, Pagano was the Ravens' defensive coordinator for one year. Baltimore finished third in the NFL in total yards and points allowed under Pagano.

He will take over a defense which finished first in points per game and third in points allowed in 2018.
