Joe Burrow appears destined to be the number one pick in the 2020 NFL Draft and Lamar Jackson believes he should win the Heisman Trophy too.

Lamar Jackson endorses likely number one pick Joe Burrow for Heisman Trophy

Lamar Jackson endorsed likely number one overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft Joe Burrow as his selection to win the Heisman Trophy.

Baltimore Ravens quarterback Jackson won the Heisman, awarded to the most outstanding player in college football, during his time at Louisville in 2016.

LSU signal-caller Burrow is the favourite to take home the prize in 2019, having led the Tigers to a 13-0 record and a SEC title.

They enter the College Football Playoff as the number one team in the country, Burrow racking up 4,715 passing yards and 48 touchdowns with just six interceptions in a remarkable year.

The defining moment of Burrow's season so far came when LSU toppled perennial powerhouse Alabama 46-41 last month.

He faces competition from Ohio State pass rusher Chase Young, Oklahoma's Jalen Hurts and Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields but Jackson believes Burrow has separated himself from that group thanks in part to the win over the Crimson Tide.

Asked in a media conference who his Heisman pick is, NFL MVP frontrunner Jackson said: "The guy who's playing lights out right now, the guy who took down Bama, Joe. Joe doing his thing, I can't lie.

"He's doing a tremendous job right now, I feel like they'll win the National Championship."
